OysterFest is home to the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championships and is Washington State’s official seafood festival. The festival also features a popular cook-off, hands-on water quality exhibits, and is itself a giant a food pavilion with nearly 100 unique items on the menu: BBQ oysters, fritters, spring rolls, garlic shrimp, fresh cider and so much more. Better yet, your culinary adventure supports about 100 local non-profit service clubs and organizations, as well as funding scholarships and local community improvement projects. With shucking contests starting at 11:00 and hourly heats the rest of the day, art and photography contests with cash prizes. That’s right cash prizes! Free entertainment is on-going. Wine tasting is provided by several Washington State Wineries and the Microbreweries certainly know how to do their thing.
OysterFest Shelton WA 2013 will be at Mason County Fairgrounds – Shelton, Wa The gates are open to the public from 10am to 6pm each day. The Fairground is located on Sanderson Field, 1/2 mile north of Shelton, west of US Highway 101. Many folks with private aircraft fly in for the event, park their planes and walk or ride to the Fairground. Skookum Rotary Club contracts for the Free Shuttle Service with Mason County Transportation Authority.
Camping at OysterFest can be lots of fun and includes admission to the festival each day (for two people). The Port of Shelton Fairgrounds prohibit campfires and no smoking is permitted anywhere on the grounds, including the camping area. Alcoholic beverages need to be consumed in your camp area and cannot be carried throughout campgrounds, from one site to another, or into the festival itself.
